Devotion-4: Jesus Wept With Mary(John 11:33)-By Soji Samson, Doha

Jesus loved Martha, Mary and Lazarus.  Three of them have different ministries.  Lazarus gave his house for Jesus.  Martha was very hostile taking care of Jesus and guests.  But, Mary was spending long time in deep communion with her master.  She enjoys sitting at his feet listening to what He says. There was a big crisis in their house.  Lazarus died and his sisters sent a note to Jesus saying that his beloved one is sick. Jesus came to Bethany after 4 days.  When Martha heard Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him.  But, Mary stayed at home.  Jesus was asking for Mary.  When Mary heard from Martha that Jesus entered Bethany, she got up quickly and went to him.  When Mary reached the place where Jesus was standing, she fell at His feet.  When Jesus saw Mary weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.   Jesus wept.

Three of them were so beloved to Jesus.  He was a frequent visitor to their house in Bethany.  But Jesus wept when He saw Mary crying. In Luke 10:39, we can see Mary sitting at His feet all the time listening to what He said, a strong personal relationship with God.  She had great passion to listen the word of God, whereas Martha was distracted with all the preparations. This was the difference between Mary and Martha. Jesus told Martha “One thing is needful, Mary has chosen it and it will not be taken away from her”. Jesus appreciated Mary’s ministry.

Do we find time to sit at His feet to meditate the word of God and listen to His voice?  Word of God is very powerful and important for our life. His most beloved ones are those who are always finding time with Him like Mary.  “Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan” John Bunyan.
